Seasons of War: Core List

A new release for Seasons of War fans!

At many of the shows we have attended, people have responded positively to demo games of Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror and have seen the potential of using armies in their collections to play games beyond those described in the book. The purpose of this 'Core Army List' is to allow players to represent most if not any pre-powder historical faction and even a fantasy army in a game of Seasons of War, by providing generic troop choices that can be tailored to suit a specific unit's arms and armaments.

To allow customisation, many unit types have 'Special Equipment Options'. This simply lists any additional Special Equipment the unit can take. Most of the rules for the Special Equipment options can be found in the main rulebook: Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror. We have however added additional items and relevant rules in this supplement such as heavy armour, pikes and ranged warmachines.

We hope this Core Army List will provide an immediate means to allow all you gamers to play Seasons with any your armies, whilst we beaver away at providing more tailored and specific army lists such as Republican Romans or Germanic Tribes. Think of it as our very own Ravening Hordes.

This supplement is available to download, for free, from the Seasons of War Resources page.

The main rulebook is available to buy as a PDF at Wargame Vault ($10 about £6.50) or as a hard copy from our website (£10 + p&p).

More Orcs!

I've given 4 of my RPE Savage Orcs a lick of paint! I wanted these guys to look a bit more of an elite feel so gave them a few lashings of gold and differentiated the shields by adding stripes. Not sure how I feel about how they turned out but on balance I'm pleased.

Going Green!

I've always loved orcs of all kinds: fantasy, space, big, small - anything goes so long as they are green! I recently downloaded an old album I used to listen to as a kid (Status Quo - courtesy of my dad!). This is besides the point, however, it conjured up lots of memories of when I painted the old GW orcs and used to pour over back issues of White Dwarf. Orcs had so much character in those days!

Anyway, partly inspired by this, and just generally on the lookout for a new project, I picked up some 15mm Demonworld orcs from Ral Partha Europe. These for me really capture that nostalgic essence of my old school orcs, so I have set to work!

Orc warriors with swords and shields

 Wolf riders with spears
Spearmen (or should that be spearorcs?)

Standard bearer

And next some bits on the workbench awaiting the attention of my brush...
 Scorpion with Goblin rider

So called 'Savage orcs' - but in my eyes, they are just 'arder and better armoured orcs
 Archers
A Shaman

Ok...so not green, but still love the model - an ogre!

And my wife's efforts! - Have a cookie everyone!

Cheers, stay green!

A size comparison.

Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror released

Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is now available to buy via Wargame Vault!

'Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is a unit based miniatures game that allows players to represent battles fought in and around the time of Duke William II - the man who would eventually take the English crown in 1066 and be immortalised as 'The Conqueror'.

The rules are designed to be streamlined and easy to learn but also allow players to replicate battle strategies used throughout the period. As you lead your 11th Century army, you will need to outsmart and outfight your rivals whilst maintaining discipline in your own ranks. The season of war is upon you; will you be the conqueror or the conquered?'

The Season of War is upon you!

So, after a long break, I feel I should post an update! Lots has been going on - I've been busy painting and writing my ruleset: Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror.

Above is the cover for the rulebook.

Above - An assortment of models. Archers, A clash of armies, Greater Fyrd, Housecarls, Norman Inf, Norman Cavalry and leaders. Models are a mix of Magister Militum and Old Glory!

More Normans

I've now completed* the full 6 bases in the unit, including command! Here are a quick snap!
*As before...need to static grass them

Days of the Conqueror title!

I've been working on some title art for the game, here it is:

Housecarls

Right, some progress has been made on the painting front. I have painted* my first base of Anglo Saxon Housecarls from Old Glory UK. Apologies for the quality of photos, my friends always seem to outdo me on that front! Anyway, enjoy!

*Not entirely finished - I need to add static grass, which will cover up the cracks/obvious height difference currently on the base!

A New Board!

Yesterday, myself and my fellow Wyverns decided to build a new board for the purpose of demo games and possibly photography for rulebooks etc. We wanted a board that we could use across a variety of scales and decided to go for a classic grass board with built in hills. Below is a photo of where we are at with it at the moment. Almost done, just need to add the details on the rock faces etc.

Seasons of War: Days of The Conqueror

I am currently working on a game of my own writing as part of 'Red Wyvern Games' - a group of 3 gamers (including myself) with a passion for writing rules for a multitude of models! This game is set in the 11th Century and will largely focus on Duke William (The Bastard!) and his contemporaries (Normans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings, Bretons, French etc). I decided to work in 10mm and ordered some models from Old Glory UK - So far so good, simple but solid designs; perfect for this scale! So, having put brush to models, I have completed my first base of Norman Spearmen, here goes!

Scale Neutral!

Welcome to the 'Scale Neutral' blog. Over the coming months, it will hopefully turn into a place where you can see what I've been up to (or not!) in regards to painting, modelling and designing. So, I'll start as I mean to go on, by posting a few pictures of projects old and current, as you can see I tend to skip between scales and genres (hence the blog title). So without further ado...
A small squad of 15mm British Infantry from my alternative Victorian age war game 'World War 0' - Models by Peterpig.

A British Steamtank with flamethrower, again from World War 0 - Mk1 Tank by Peterpig with conversion pieces used from Spartan Games and Gamesworkshop.

Russian Infantry, also from World War 0 - Models by peterpig

And something a bit different: 6mm Republican Roman Cavalry - Models by Baccus 6mm
